Ada Milea Live in the Garden
On March 22, 2020, we had scheduled 2 concerts at The Cockpit with Ada Milea and Bobo Burlăcianu with people in the audience.
On March 16, the United Kingdom entered the lockdown. At the same time, Romania stopped all flights on the ground.
Five months later, Ada Milea managed to get to London, spend 14 days in self-isolation, and be able to start discussions about the opportunity to organise one or two live concerts in England.
With all the theatres closed due to the pandemic and the ban on indoor events, first of all, we had to find the right and safe space from a sanitary point of view. The pubs were just opening, but very few had a large enough garden that could accommodate an artist who stood at least 3 meters away from spectators and a distant audience
The next idea we had was to find a fairly large garden that could accommodate up to 30 people (the maximum number approved by the government).
So I sent an e-mail to the Tales Told in Romanian spectators asking them if they have a garden that they want to make available for a live concert with Ada Milea. And the positive and enthusiastic response came back from a spectator who generously offered her home garden in South London.
Also, the house where I live in Oxford has a garden where I dreamed of being able to do theatre performances at some point, so the second concert became the one in my garden in East Oxford.
Karen Kay, an Oxford based artist and Ada Milea fan gladly gave us the amplifier we needed for the sound, the owner of my house, and a neighbour gave us chairs and extenders, and people were very happy to come.
I must confess that it was a great joy for me to be able to organise these two concerts. Not only did I re-enter the status of producer, which I had lost in March, but especially as a spectator. Ada Milea was extraordinary in unknown conditions, she improvised superbly when the sounds of a moped covered her voice and guitar, she was as usual funny, intelligent, generous.
I would like to thank her and her wonderful spectators for the gift they offered: that of being together again
